According to figures provided by Israel, at least 98 Palestinians have lost their lives during detention since October 2023. An advocacy organization operating from Israel has indicated that the true toll is probably substantially larger, due to hundreds of unaccounted for detainees from Gaza.

Latest Data

Official armed forces finalized data on deaths in detention for May 2024, and correctional authorities in September 2024. Researchers discovered an additional 35 deaths in confinement following these timeframes and confirmed them with Israeli authorities.

Despite the total number of casualties documented being significantly higher than previous assessments, it probably fails to capture the full scale of Palestinian casualties, per the leader of the detainee affairs unit.
